Isn't it fascinating that our bodies contain an ecological niche that allows trillions of microorganisms to thrive within the GI tract? Yet, a healthy symbiotic relationship with our microbiome is not guaranteed, and microbiota-derived metabolites can influence disease onset and progression.
My research focuses on the gut–liver axis and how microbial communities and their metabolites, such as imidazole propionate, affect liver function at single-cell resolution. I am particularly interested in understanding how immune cells communicate with tissue-resident liver cells during the development and progression of type 2 diabetes (T2D) and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH).
