My research is focused on the role of the gut microbiota in cardiovascular health. I am investigating which environmental and host factors in the gut result in health- or disease-promoting microbes and microbial metabolites by combining wet lab and bioinformatic approaches.
During my work in the group we found that the presence or absence of bacterial taxa, but also their metabolites play a role in host health. Ultimately I would like to use our gained knowledge to fight cardiometabolic diseases by positively modulating the gut microbiota through probiotics or prebiotics.
