New article published on gut bacteria playing an active role in diabetes remission after bariatric surgery
New research from our group shows that gut bacteria may play an active role in diabetes remission after bariatric surgery. The study found that patients with greater improvements in gut microbiota diversity and function also showed better long-term blood sugar control — suggesting the microbiome could become a future target for precision treatments for obesity and type 2 diabetes.
The article by first author Lisa Olsson, co-author Valentina Tremaroli and last author Fredrik Bäckhed was published in Nature Metabolism today.
