The number of microbes in the human body far exceeds the number of human cells, with gut microbiota accounting for the majority. However, we know very little about these companions that coexist with us day and night. Therefore, my aspiration is to gain a better understanding of humanity through microbiology and to benefit humankind.
The gut microbiota play a crucial role in influencing host health. Our hypothesis suggests that anaerobic bacteria in the gut are often exposed to oxygen from the host, which drives the development of mechanisms that help these microbes maintain anaerobic conditions. Understanding how certain anaerobic bacteria have adapted to tolerate oxygen exposure is vital for advancing our knowledge in this field.
My research focuses on investigating how anaerobic bacteria respond to and manage molecular oxygen within the gut environment. Additionally, this research aims to develop next-generation gut probiotics.
