My research is focused on the interactions between the gut microbiome, microbial metabolites, and cardiometabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk.
I am investigating how gut microbiota and tryptophan-derived microbial metabolites influence host metabolism and whether they can serve as early biomarkers or therapeutic targets for disease prevention.
Specific gut microbes and their metabolites are associated with the development of several diseases, highlighting their great potential as non-invasive tools for predicting host risk and as therapeutic targets. Ultimately, my goal is to identify key microbes/metabolites and to develop models that can be translated into non-invasive diagnostics and novel preventive strategies for cardiometabolic diseases.
