Welcome Jana, our new master’s student
Jana recently joined Bäckhed lab from Bayreuth University, Germany, where she is pursuing her Master's in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Her interest in microbiome research has grown strong during her studies and she is particularly fascinated by how microorganisms interact with the human body and influence diseases.
Under the supervision of Post-Doc Hobby Aggarwal, Jana's current focus is on understanding the role of the gut microbiome in cardiometabolic disorders, such as heart disease and diabetes. Now, she's working on a project investigating a specific microbial metabolite called Imidazole Propionate and how it affects these conditions. Her work involves techniques like histological staining, gene expression analysis, and gut microbiota profiling to uncover how the metabolite influences disease mechanisms.
Jana recently started her first histological work, analyzing pancreatic tissues - a new challenge that she's excited to master. Outside of her research, she’s enjoying life in Gothenburg, exploring its islands and wandering through Haga, finding a balance between lab work and being outdoors.
We’re happy to have you on the team, Jana!
